COMPETITION 2010



This Competition is open to Dance students of any nationality from ages 9 to 22. All participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent, teacher or legal guardian. The age of participants at the 2010 edition of the Vancliffen Arts Foundation Competition will be determined by their age as of January 1st, 2010.

The scope of the Competition is to search for and evaluate young talents and encourage them by the granting of scholarships to world renowned professional schools and major International and National workshops in order to enhance their Dance education.



1) PRE-COMPETITIVE (AGES 09 – 11) In this category only group numbers will be accepted.
2) JUNIORS (AGES 12 – 15)
3) SENIORS (AGES 16- 18)
4) SEMI-PROFESSIONAL (18-22)

- Vancliffen Arts Foundation and Pavlova &C. D. reserve the right to utilize any photo or video recording of the performance of the participants during the competition for promotional purposes. The participants their parents and or legal Guardian by accepting to register for the competition are deemed to have consented to the publication of all images , photos and videos without the need to obtain any further consent nor compensation of any type for it not now not in the future. All such images and publications shall be the exclusive property of the Vancliffen Arts Foundation and Pavlova & C.D.



Variations from Classical Repertory: maximum 2:30 mins.

Solo pieces – Modern/Contemporary: maximum 3:30 mins.

Pas de Deux (from Classical Repertory): Adagio, Male Var., Female Var., Coda.

Pas de Deux (original choreography): maximum 5 mins.

Groups (minimum 5 participants): maximum 3:30 mins.

The Workshops’ and Eliminations will be held from March 25- 27, 2010 at the:

Studio Dimensions: Studio 1 – 10 x 13 meters. Studio 2 – 12 x 7 meters



All scholarships and awards will be assigned during a Gala performance on March 28th, 2010 at
Teatro Serassi
Villa D'Alme
Via Locatelli, Milesi

CATEGORIES: All participants may choose to present themselves in one or more of the following categories:

Classical Ballet:
A) Soloist
B) Pas de Deux
C) Ensemble (minimum 5 part. )

*Solos that do not belong to the Classical Repertory that permit the participant to show their versatility and that demonstrate the quality of their artistry.

Jazz-Modern Dance-Contemporary:
A) Soloist
B) Pas de Deux
C) Ensemble (minimum 5 part. )



Pre-Competitive – 1 Group choreography. Free choreography, age appropriate.

Junior – 1 Variation from the Classical Ballet Repertory + 1 Modern/Contemporary or Jazz.

Senior – 2 Variations from Classical Ballet Repertory + 1 Modern/Contemporary or Jazz.

Semi-Professional – 3 Variations from the classical Ballet Repertory + 1 Modern/Contemporary or Jazz.

Please Note: that the variations from the Classical Ballet must be performed without any changes to simplify the original choreography or to perform personal tricks. In the case that the execution is not according to an accepted version of the piece the participant will be eliminated automatically.

The participants in the above category may chose to perform a Pas de deux with a partner that is not participating in the competition.

Those participants who chose to perform in the Pas de Deux Category (Classical or Modern/Contemporary divisions), 3 couples must be registered in this division.



All the Workshops, Selections and Rehearsals on stage will be done WITH ONLY THE JURY PRESENT.

The Candidates for the Soloist Category (including Pas de Deux) will present their variations to the Jury on the 25th, 26th and 27th of March. The Jury will then pick the finalists and the Repertory they will present in the Gala Award Performance.

The Group Category will have the possibility to present their pieces directly in the Theater on March 28th.

The order in which the contestants will present themselves on stage during the finale will be established and announced with in four hours before the curtain goes up.

Candidates will be adjudicated based on Artistry and Technical Quality. Each candidate will receive a judgment based on the points system of 10. The final grade will be based on both the Technical and Artistic vote given by the Adjudicators.

CATEGORY – SOLOIST – Variations from the Classical Repertory and Modern/Contemporary



1 “Platinum Scholarship" dedicated to the memory of the famed Teacher “Lilia Bertelli” who passed away in April 2005 and will consist of a 30 day Summer Course offered by Canada’s National Ballet School (Toronto). This scholarship may also include room and board and/or trip to Canada offered by the Vancliffen Arts Foundation, at the discretion of the Jury.

1 “Gold Scholarship” in memory of “Malvina Franco” daughter of actor Lollo Franco and former Director of Palermo Danza, Santina Pellitieri Franco, for a 30 day Summer course offered by Canada’s National Ballet School, Toronto, Canada . This scholarship may include room and board or airfare offered by the Vancliffen Arts Foundation at the discretion of the Jury.

1 Scholarship for the Salzburg International Ballet Workshop, a 30 day Summer Course. This scholarship may include room and board or airfare offered by the Vancliffen Arts Foundation at the discretion of the Jury.

1 Scholarship for a 30 day Summer Course at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, U.S.A. This scholarship may include room and board or airfare offered by the Vancliffen Arts Foundation at the discretion of the Jury.

6 Scholarships offered by the Vancliffen Arts Foundation for the Summer Intensive Program 2010, 7 days. Trip, room and board are not covered.

2 Scholarships for the Spring or Summer Intensive Program, 7 days at the Pavlova Ballet School & Company, done in collaboration with the Vancliffen Arts Foundation. Trips, Room and Board are not covered.

Scholarships for the Be Discovered Los Angeles and New York.

2 Scholarship for Steps on Broadway, New York. 7 days, trips Room and Board are not covered.

Other Scholarships and Prizes will be announced in January 2010.

In the case that none of the candidates have the necessary requisites for the Scholarship to Canada’s National Ballet School the scholarships will not be awarded.

The participants may compete in more than one category for prizes in the other categories. Scholarship will be given one to the Top Soloists in the competition.



Plaques, Cups and Certificates will be awarded to the groups that place in the top 3 of each category



All music must be presented on a CD. Each variation or number must have a separate CD and must be consigned the first day of the competition at the Pavlova School.

All CD’S must have the name and number of the contestant, category title and composer written on the front. We ask that each participant have a copy of the CD for any eventuality.

Workshops will be held March 25th through the 27th and are included in the price.

The Workshops are an integral part of the competition and are MANDATORY.

All participants students of schools associated with F.I.D.S will receive a discount of 50% on the registration fee of Euro 30,00. In the registration documents please specify No. A.S.A and your F.I.D.S personal card number. You MUST present the card on the first day of the competition.

All candidates that are not members of A.S.A. and that are not members of F.I.D.S. must complete an extra form to receive membership to F.I.D.S. THIS DOES NOT INVOLVE ANY ADDITIONAL EXPENSES.

All students coming from schools that do the Vancliffen International Ballet Examinations, will receive a 50% discount on the registration fee of € 30. 00

All requests to participate in the Vancliffen International Ballet Competition for Young Talents must be in by and no later than March 15, 2010 at the following address:

All participants will receive confirmation upon arrival of documents within 10 days by email. In case you do not receive any confirmation with in 10 days please feel free to contact the official National Registration Office: Pavlova email: info@pavlova.it or you may call 035-347-356.

Vancliffen Arts Foundation is not responsible for any damage, accident or loss of property during the competition or workshops.

All requests must be in by and not later then MARCH 15, 2010. The Vancliffen Arts Foundation & Pavlova C.D. will assess the individual cases of late entries accordingly. Please remember that Vancliffen Arts Foundation is a Canadian Federal, Organization and must abide by the laws in Canada, postal dates are not considered valid so please get your entries in as early as possible.

All Scholarships Winners are obligated to present a letter of acceptance or decline within 30 days of the Gala. All letters must be sent to the Vancliffen Arts Foundation in Canada by regular mail and by email . In the case that a winner renounces the scholarship, at the discretion of the Vancliffen Arts Foundation the scholarship may be given to the runner-up. Students will be given a copy of their scores before going into the Finale. Finale scores will be announced at the presentations of the scholarships.



Only requests of reimbursements in the case of injuries or sickness will be taken into consideration, only by presenting a valid Medical Certificate. The reimbursement will be given with a deduction of € 30.00 .

The Vancliffen Arts Foundation reserves the right to cancel the Competition in the event that by March 15, 2010 there is not a sufficient number of participants, in such a case the participation fee will be returned in full. In the case of any disputes, the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, will prevail.
